Optical microscopy is the basic method for examining the surface of materials. From the examined surface of materials and microstructure we can conclude about the chemical composition, mechanical properties, etc. With computer image processing, we can additionally identify and analyze defects, impurities, and the type of mechanical and heat treatment.
