In the field of development and science, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Maribor pursues and implements its strategy of research excellence.
Our researchers are outstanding, as shown by many successfully completed and ongoing national projects, and we are well integrated in the international environment, as shown by many EU projects from Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe, as well as from the Structural and Cohesion Programmes, which increases our visibility and competitiveness in research activity. In terms of scientific publications, we are among the most active and successful at UM and in the European area. Our PhD students are recognized experts and are integrated in successful companies. Our motto is to continuously strive for intensive knowledge transfer and the creation of innovations in business. We are constantly working to involve students in scientific research and to enable them to succeed in the job market.
At the Faculty, we are aware that success is not only based on excellent research, but also on good interpersonal relationships and the promotion of honesty, sincerity, professional ethics, and social responsibility in research and teaching. We promote autonomy and openness in research and teaching, and above all, we aim to strengthen inter/integration and establish interdisciplinary interaction among engineering disciplines.
In the future, we will continue to focus on the responsible maintenance and further expansion of a modern research infrastructure. We want to continue to work primarily according to the principle of open access, both in the sense of open access in the research infrastructure and open access in scientific publications and research data. We will also strengthen the use of artificial intelligence and its use in an ethical manner.
We will continue to maintain a modern research and innovation ecosystem that leads to breakthrough research results and effective knowledge transfer to the economy, both nationally and globally. At the same time, we need to address and solve economic and societal challenges in a responsible manner, leading to a higher quality of life while increasing added value and competitiveness and creating better jobs.
All the above activities are carried out in accordance with the Europe 2020 Strategy, the EU Research and Innovation Strategy 2020-2024, the Research and Innovation Strategy of Slovenia 2021-2030 and the Vision and Orientation of the University of Maribor (from 2021-2030), as well as many other strategic documents.
