At its heart engineering is about using science to find
creative practical solutions. It‘s a noble profession.

Dear present and future students
Being an engineer is challenging and demanding. You will face unforeseen circumstances, problematic tasks and unavoidable failures. Again and again. And again. But being an engineer is also very rewarding. It allows you to seek for “impossible” solutions. To do something, no one else thought could be done. To build trust in yourself.
Here at the Mechanical Engineering Department of the University of Maribor it is in everyone’s best interest to seek for professional perfection, and the best chance of reaching this goal is to act as a team. We put our trust in each other, and do what we can to keep the highest standards of teaching and learning, to be responsible and honorable members of the society. The strength of being a team is that you never give up. You sometimes make unpopular decisions, take a path that is narrow, but also always assess the situation and ask yourself: “What can I personally do to solve this out? How can I help?” That’s how we grow.
We need others to complete ourselves. If we do our job, a lifetime tour of duty, then we are part of a family. On behalf of my team, I welcome you all here at our Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and wish you to “engineer” yourself to challenge of becoming the best “you” possible. There are many challenges around us that need to be solved, but cannot be solved properly without a significant contribution of well-educated and skilled mechanical engineers. Become and remain a part of our family, a team that wants to make the world a better place for everyone. Together we can do it!
